Ahead of the Undas observance marking All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, Philippine National Police chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. conducted on-site inspections at key transport terminals and the Manila North Cemetery on October 30, 2026.
Terminals and Cemetery Among Sites Assessed
The PNP Public Information Office (PNP-PIO) reported that General Nartatez evaluated police deployment, operational readiness, and security arrangements at transport hubs, which included an inspection of buses. The Chief PNP also visited the Manila North Cemetery as part of the security review.
According to the PNP-PIO, the inspections were intended to safeguard travelers, commuters, and cemetery visitors during the holiday period — a time when large numbers of Filipinos travel to their home provinces and pay respects to deceased relatives.
Initiative Linked to PNP's Enhanced Managing Police Operations
The PNP-PIO said the inspection activities fall under the PNP Focused Agenda, specifically through the Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO) component, which mandates intensified police visibility and responsive security measures across public spaces.
The agency described the move as a proactive measure against criminal activity and a means of preserving peace and order throughout the Undas season.
Agency Reaffirms Pledge to Protect the Public
In its official statement, the PNP-PIO said the organization "remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring public safety," and reiterated its guiding principle: "Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman."
