Corrections Policy

Effective Date: February 26, 2026 Last Updated: February 26, 2026

Breaking News Negros Oriental is committed to accuracy and transparency in all of our reporting. When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly, openly, and honestly. This Corrections Policy outlines how we handle errors and inaccuracies in our published content.

Our Commitment

Accuracy is a core principle of our journalism. We hold ourselves accountable to our readers and the public. When we get something wrong — whether it is a factual error, a misleading statement, or an incomplete report — we take immediate steps to correct the record.

Types of Corrections

We classify corrections into the following categories:

1. Minor Corrections

Typographical errors, grammatical mistakes, broken links, and minor factual clarifications (such as misspelled names or incorrect dates) are corrected directly in the article. For minor corrections that do not materially change the meaning or substance of the article, a correction note may not be appended.

2. Standard Corrections

When a factual error that could affect the reader's understanding of the story is identified, we:

  • Correct the error in the article.
  • Append a Correction notice at the bottom of the article clearly stating what was changed and when.
  • The original incorrect text is not preserved in the published article, but the correction notice ensures transparency.

Example format:

Correction (February 26, 2026): An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated [incorrect information]. The article has been updated to reflect [correct information].

3. Significant Corrections and Retractions

For errors that substantially affect the credibility or meaning of a story:

  • The article is corrected and a prominent Editor's Note is added at the top of the article.
  • If the error is severe enough to undermine the entire article, the article may be retracted with an explanation.
  • A retraction notice clearly states the reason for the retraction and is permanently displayed.

4. Updates and Clarifications

When new information becomes available that does not constitute a factual error but adds important context to a previously published story:

  • An Update note is added to the article with the date and new information.
  • The original reporting remains intact.

How to Report an Error

We encourage readers, sources, and the public to report any errors or inaccuracies they find in our content. You can submit a correction request through any of the following channels:

Email: breakingnewsnegrosoriental@gmail.com Contact page: https://breakingnewsnegor.com/contact

When submitting a correction request, please include:

  1. The title or URL of the article in question.
  2. A description of the error or inaccuracy.
  3. The correct information, along with a source or reference if available.
  4. Your name and contact information (optional but helpful for follow-up).

Our Process

  1. Acknowledgment: We aim to acknowledge all correction requests within 24 hours.
  2. Verification: Our editorial team investigates the reported error by reviewing sources, consulting with the original author, and verifying the correct information.
  3. Correction: If an error is confirmed, we publish the correction promptly, typically within 48 hours.
  4. Notification: If you provided contact information, we will notify you when the correction has been made.

Editorial Independence

Correction decisions are made by the editorial team based on journalistic standards, not external pressure. We do not remove or alter articles at the request of sources, subjects, or advertisers unless a genuine factual error is confirmed.

Record of Corrections

We maintain an internal log of all significant corrections and retractions for accountability and quality improvement purposes.
