More than 4,400 Filipinos found immediate employment across the country on Independence Day, as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) staged nationwide job fairs that transformed the national holiday into a pivotal moment for economic opportunity. A total of 4,476 individuals were hired on the spot (HOTS) during the "TRABAHO AGAD" (Work Immediately) fairs held simultaneously in 61 locations on June 12.
This surge in immediate hires not only signals a robust rebound in the Philippine job market but also represents a tangible stride toward alleviating unemployment and underemployment for thousands of families. The record-breaking performance, significantly outpacing previous years, highlights the government's intensified efforts in direct employment facilitation and underscores a growing readiness among diverse industries to expand their workforces, linking qualified applicants directly to sustainable livelihoods.
Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino described the initiative as a significant success, affirming DOLE's commitment to facilitating employment and ensuring accessible job opportunities for all Filipinos. The enthusiasm evident among both job seekers and participating employers reflected a shared desire to invigorate the national workforce and drive economic participation. This year's tally of 4,476 hired-on-the-spot far surpassed previous Independence Day job fair performances, exceeding the 3,665 hires recorded in 2022, 3,422 in 2023, 3,651 in 2024, and 3,722 in 2025. This consistent upward trend points to the effectiveness of aggressive employment facilitation strategies and a responsive labor market.
The opportunities filled spanned a diverse array of industries and positions, catering to a wide spectrum of skills and experience levels available within the Filipino workforce. Roles promptly secured included production operators, service crew members, cashiers, sales associates, and baggers, alongside professional positions such as teachers, customer service representatives, clerks, and store clerks. This variety underscores a broad-based demand within the Philippine economy, reaching across manufacturing, retail, education, and the burgeoning customer service sectors.
A cornerstone of this year’s job fairs was a deliberate commitment to inclusive employment. Special efforts were made to extend opportunities to traditionally marginalized groups and those seeking entry or re-entry into the workforce. Among the priority beneficiaries were senior high school graduates, families enrolled in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), members of indigenous communities, repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), and persons with disabilities (PWDs). This inclusive approach aligns directly with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration’s broader thrust to expand employment opportunities across various sectors and make essential government services more accessible to all citizens.
In the National Capital Region (NCR), a substantial portion of the immediate hires were recorded, with DOLE-NCR reporting 1,408 individuals securing jobs on the spot. These metropolitan efforts were significantly bolstered by strategic partnerships with local government units and the Public Employment Service Office Association of Metro Manila (PAMM), ensuring that job fairs were held in easily accessible and high-traffic locations, including major shopping malls and university auditoriums. Within the NCR alone, over 1,015 local and overseas employers confirmed their participation, collectively offering more than 44,630 job opportunities in key economic drivers such as Manufacturing, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Wholesale and Retail Trade, Construction, Transport and Logistics, Food & Beverage, and Hospitality.
Beyond Metro Manila, other regions also reported impressive outcomes, underscoring the nationwide reach and impact of the initiative. In Central Visayas (Region 7), for instance, DOLE-7 confirmed that 266 job seekers secured immediate employment during fairs held concurrently in Cebu City and Bohol province. This regional event, part of the larger 2026 Mega Local and Overseas Job Fair, saw 519 registered job seekers vying for approximately 8,000 available positions. Regional Director Roy Buenafe of DOLE-7 highlighted a crucial partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), specifically designed to facilitate immediate employment for senior high school graduates, thereby ensuring a smoother and more direct transition from academic life to professional careers.
Beyond direct job matching, the Independence Day job fairs were strategically designed as comprehensive "one-stop-shop" employment hubs. Attendees benefited immensely from the on-site presence of various government agencies offering essential services, streamlining the often-cumbersome pre-employment requirements and documentation process. Agencies like the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Social Security System (SSS), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), and Pag-IBIG Fund were on hand, providing critical support that significantly reduced bureaucratic hurdles.
Additionally, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) offered crucial information on vital training opportunities, while the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) provided access to specialized training courses and microcredential programs. These DICT offerings focused on in-demand skills such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital marketing, and data analytics, addressing the evolving needs of modern industries. These auxiliary services are paramount for reducing the logistical and financial burdens often associated with job applications, ultimately making the entire process faster, more convenient, and more equitable for applicants.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) also played a crucial role in the nationwide effort, organizing its own dedicated job fair at Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas, Quezon City. This event offered over 4,000 overseas job vacancies, proving particularly significant for both first-time job seekers aspiring to work abroad and overseas Filipino workers who had been repatriated due to global tensions or economic shifts. Thirteen licensed recruitment agencies facilitated a wide array of opportunities in numerous countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, and various European nations, underscoring the continued strong international demand for skilled Filipino talent across diverse sectors. DMW officials also took the opportunity to clarify pertinent policies regarding overseas employment, such as the temporary halt on new guest worker visas in Hungary, assuring workers with existing documents that their deployment plans remained valid.
The consistent organization of these large-scale employment events by DOLE aims to alleviate unemployment and underemployment, foster economic stability at the household level, and empower individuals to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s broader growth trajectory. The record-breaking number of hires this Independence Day serves as a testament to the effectiveness of direct employment facilitation strategies and reflects the inherent resilience and adaptability of the Filipino workforce.
The success of these job fairs, held on a day symbolizing freedom, highlights a broader governmental vision of economic emancipation for Filipinos. By directly connecting talent with opportunity and integrating essential support services, these initiatives seek to unlock the potential of the labor force, allowing more citizens to actively participate in and benefit from the nation’s economic progress. As the Philippines navigates a complex global economic landscape, the momentum generated by such initiatives will be crucial in sustaining inclusive growth and building a more robust and equitable job market for the future.
