A closing ceremony at Brigadier General Benito N. Ebuen Air Base in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, officially ended the Philippine Air Force's Sanay Bagwis 03-2026 field training exercise, the PAF announced.
Conducted entirely as a unilateral PAF undertaking, the exercise was designed to evaluate operational readiness, sharpen coordination among units, and demonstrate how air assets can be deployed across a variety of military and humanitarian mission scenarios, according to the Philippine Air Force.
Two-Day Field Training Phase
The PAF said the Field Training Exercise component ran on October 10 and 12, 2026, with the October 13 closing ceremony serving as the formal culmination of the full exercise cycle. Both active and reserve PAF personnel were involved, with multiple units contributing to a series of coordinated simulated operations throughout the training period.
Six Mission Areas Put to the Test
According to the PAF, units trained across six distinct mission categories during the exercise: personnel insertion and extraction, disaster assessment and response support, medical evacuation and casualty care, aerial delivery of supplies, personnel mobility, and support to mass mobilization.
Various aircraft were deployed in line with their designated roles and capabilities, covering tasks that ranged from transporting personnel and cargo to responding to emergency situations and fulfilling broader operational requirements.
Active and Reserve Units Train Together
The PAF noted that the exercise brought together both active-duty and reserve force personnel in a live field training environment, made possible through the coordinated involvement of several PAF units. Combining these elements in a real-time setting gave participants the opportunity to apply skills, synchronise actions, and gauge their responsiveness to shifting operational conditions, the PAF said.
Humanitarian Scenarios Woven Into the Exercise
The Philippine Air Force emphasized that Sanay Bagwis 03-2026 was structured to mirror realistic conditions its units may face during actual deployments. Disaster response components — including casualty care procedures and aerial supply delivery — were incorporated to reflect the PAF's mandate to support both national defense missions and civilian humanitarian needs, according to the PAF statement.
By the Numbers
- October 10 and 12, 2026 — dates the Field Training Exercise phase was conducted
- October 13, 2026 — date of the closing ceremony at Ebuen Air Base, Lapu-Lapu City
- 6 mission types tested: personnel insertion/extraction, disaster assessment and response, medical evacuation and casualty care, aerial supply delivery, personnel mobility, and mass mobilization support
Why This Matters
The PAF said Sanay Bagwis 03-2026 was intended to validate the operational readiness of both active and reserve components under realistic field conditions. The exercise covered a wide spectrum of scenarios — spanning combat-support and disaster relief missions — and the completion of the training cycle at Ebuen Air Base indicates that participating units met the benchmarks set for this exercise series, according to the Philippine Air Force.
