Military officials from the Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division have corroborated warnings issued by a Filipino-American advocacy organization concerning Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) recruitment operations targeting young Filipino-Americans on United States soil.
In a Saturday statement from Camp Capinpin in Rizal, military leadership supported alerts from the Filipino-Americans Against Communist Terrorism (FACT) regarding suspected recruitment schemes aimed at drawing Filipino-American youth into armed training programs within Philippine mountain regions.
These warnings gained substantial backing through recent rescue operations conducted in Occidental Mindoro, where military forces recovered Filipino-American citizens who had reportedly affiliated with CPP-NPA formations.
Maryland Graduate Found After Days Without Supplies
Documentation from military sources reveals that Chantal Anicoche, aged 24 and a University of Maryland alumna, received assistance from government soldiers on January 8, 2026, after surviving multiple days without sustenance or hydration following a January 1 military engagement in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. Military personnel provided medical care and coordinated her safe return to family members in Maryland.
According to FACT's allegations, Anicoche and additional Filipino-American advocates were targeted by CPP-NPA-connected operatives within United States borders before journeying to the Philippines for indoctrination and military instruction with the insurgent organization.
Intelligence reports suggest Anicoche traveled alongside fellow Filipino-American activist Cristina Pasion, who purportedly continued with the armed faction after the January military encounter. Armed forces representatives have declined to verify Pasion's present location or circumstances.
March Arrest Strengthens Foreign Operation Evidence
Additional validation of military concerns emerged through the March 29 detention of Charlize Garzon, known by the alias "Ka Kaye," who was captured within meters of the location where Captain Dean Oyando lost his life during active combat operations. The same engagement left two additional military personnel with injuries.
Garzon currently confronts criminal prosecution related to the confrontation that produced military casualties. Her detention yielded supplementary intelligence regarding overseas recruitment activities, military representatives reported.
Materials retrieved from engagement locations included personal journals and handwritten documentation that military intelligence analysts claim confirm foreign individual participation within NPA formations active in Occidental Mindoro. Recovered items also included an M16 rifle and additional military equipment.
Division Official Highlights Deceptive Recruitment Methods
Colonel Michael Aquino, serving as Chief of the 2nd Division Public Affairs Office, characterized the recruitment strategy as deliberately targeting susceptible young people through misleading approaches.
"Information received from multiple sources, including Filipino-American organizations directly, validates that the CPP-NPA maintains recruitment and exploitation of youth, including individuals from international communities, drawing them into terrorist activities that threaten their safety," Colonel Aquino declared.
The military spokesperson stressed the stark contrast between recruitment assurances and actual combat conditions experienced by young participants.
"Young people frequently receive false impressions about supporting worthy objectives, yet ground-level reality proves dramatically different. Rather than advancing meaningful causes, they face hazardous circumstances and serve violent ideologies that have inflicted community suffering across decades," Aquino clarified.
International Filipino Communities Advised to Stay Alert
The 2nd Infantry Division released targeted advisories to overseas Filipino populations, requesting heightened awareness regarding recruitment strategies focused on young Filipino-Americans.
"We encourage families, communities, and Filipino organizations internationally to maintain alertness and assist in protecting youth from extremist movement involvement," Colonel Aquino stated.
Military intelligence indicates recruitment efforts may focus on idealistic young Filipino-Americans through activist networks and social justice organizations operating within American borders.
Surrender Programs Continue Despite Active Operations
While maintaining military pressure against CPP-NPA forces, the 2nd Infantry Division renewed offers for armed group participants to surrender through existing government rehabilitation programs.
Military leadership highlighted available support structures designed to assist former fighters in reconstructing their lives and reconnecting with family members. Program benefits encompass livelihood support, educational access, and legal assistance for individuals abandoning armed resistance.
The Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) delivers financial aid and social services to former insurgents who surrender to government authorities, according to official military records.
Mindoro Military Activities Maintain Intensity
Government security operations throughout Occidental Mindoro continue as military units pursue remaining CPP-NPA elements operating in the territory. The region has emerged as a central focus for anti-insurgency campaigns due to documented foreign recruit training operations.
The 2nd Infantry Division sustains regular patrol activities and community outreach initiatives in targeted areas to discourage additional recruitment and training efforts by insurgent groups.
Intelligence collection operations maintain emphasis on exposing recruitment networks functioning between American and Philippine territories, with specific focus on educational facilities and activist organizations potentially compromised by CPP-NPA infiltration.
