Even in Toledo City, an area typically less impacted by dense urban pollution, the AQI was recorded at 73, categorized as "fair," by Friday afternoon, only after having been "unhealthy for sensitive groups" earlier in the day, demonstrating the broad geographic reach of the phenomenon.

The trajectory and persistence of the haze are intricately influenced by both the unwavering intensity of the Indonesian fires and the prevailing regional wind patterns. While rainfall offers a potential, albeit temporary, reprieve by washing pollutants from the air, it provides only a short-lived respite if the source fires persist and favorable wind conditions for continued pollutant transport remain. This dynamic underscores the profound interconnectedness of environmental challenges across Southeast Asia, where seasonal forest fires, frequently linked to agricultural practices such as slash-and-burn, can generate far-reaching and severe consequences on air quality, impacting communities thousands of kilometers away.
